JUNIOR Football

10 - 13 Years

Cashmere Technical FC's Junior football program provides a nurturing environment for young players to develop skills, teamwork, and a love for the game. With passionate coaches, fun-focused training, and competitive opportunities, the club fosters growth for all abilities, ensuring every child enjoys football while reaching their potential on and off the pitch.

Our Junior football philosophy focuses on playing out from the back and building composure, technical ability, and teamwork, encouraging players to build confidence, make smart decisions, and progress the ball creatively from defense.

Our 10th to 13th grade teams take part in Mainland Footballs Citywide competition which sees them take on teams from across Canterbury.

Teams:  CTFC offers teams ranging from fun, social football to highly competitive Talent Development teams, across both mixed and girls-only grades. Players seeking selection in Talent Development (Pre-Academy and Academy) teams or Division 1–3 teams should attend Team Selection sessions held each February. Players wishing to play with friends should register as usual and include any friend or team requests during registration.

Community teams are formed by Volunteer Grade Managers after registrations close on 1 March, with team information provided by mid-April. Please note that mixed-Academy teams for grades 14, 15 and 17 teams are selected in November each year.

Training:  Community junior football teams are coached by a Volunteer Coach. It is at the coaches discretion if the team has a training session. If the team has a training session, the information will be emailed to you by the Volunteer Coach.

*CTFC is committed to giving female players choice in the environment where they feel most comfortable. We support increased participation in sport while nurturing the development of future star players.

We offer our young female players the opportunity to choose between mixed teams or U11 and U13 girls-only teams. Girls-only teams can be particularly well suited to players who are playing for fun or who prefer to learn in a female-only environment, providing a supportive space to build confidence and develop football skills. You can indicate your players preference during the registration process by selecting a Girls-Only or Mixed registration.

  • REGISTERING YOUR PLAYER FOR THE SEASON

Registration for all grades is now!

Football registration remains open until that grade reaches maximum capacity - we highly recommend registering as early as possible to avoid missing out!

Our First Kicks and Fun Football grades generally fill the quickest each season. You can find more information on registering for the 2026 winter season here.

View information on registering for the 2026 season and how to register, please view our Registration Information page here.

  • PLAYING GEAR

Playing tops:  CTFC provides a playing shirt for each player - Game Day Leaders will collect the teams gear bag on the first day of the season and distribute them. We have various sizes avaible on-site in case of sizing swaps. Playing tops are to be returned (clean please!) to Game Day Leaders after the final weekend of the season.

Shorts & socks: Players need to buy blue shorts and socks at Anderson and Hill at Barrington Mall - let them know you're with Cashmere Technical and the friendly staff will get you sorted.

Boots:  Players are required to wear studded (plastic - no metal please) football boots whilst warming up and playing. As the season progresses, the ground can become slick and muddy. Studded boots allow for better grip whilst running and changing direction.

Funding is available for both registration fees and playing gear - please email accounts@ctfc.co.nz for more information, and refer to our Financial Support information found here.

  • Playing Philosophy

Play Out from the Back: Focus on short passes from defenders and goalkeepers to develop skills and positioning, even if mistakes are made.

Position Rotation: Players rotate positions to enhance tactical understanding and versatility.

Shared Game Time: Playing time is evenly distributed with emphasis on fun and development, affected only by attitude, behavior, or lateness, not performance.

  • GROUND CLOSURES & FIXTURE CANCELLATIONS

If grounds are closed due to unsafe playing conditions, we will notify all registered players and their contacts via email by 11.00am on the day. Updates will also be posted on our Facebook page.

If fixtures are cancelled, information will be communicated through Mainland Football’s website. We strongly recommend checking your player’s fixture details on the morning of the game, as match locations can occasionally change or fixtures may be cancelled due to opposition forfeits.
